Inspired by Denis Glover’s poem The Magpies’, Gary Henderson’s Skin Tight tells the enchanting story of Tom and Elizabeth who lose the farm, fight intensely, make up, love fiercely, and grow old.

“A soul-ripping, no-holds-barred exploration of love between two people, brilliantly depicted in Gary Henderson’s script, sensitively directed by Mbongeni N. Mtshali and superbly portrayed by the incredibly well-matched Jock Kleynhans and Lisa Tredoux through every vulnerability, insecurity, irritation, passion, comfort, gentleness and terror […]

Through its merciless slow burn of reveals, each layer of the simple but deeply moving plot slowly unpeels as we come to understand the fear that these two ordinary rural New Zealanders are facing —and embracing— stoically, tenderly, anxiously.”  –Richard Higgs

“If you have other plans, cancel them, or postpone them. If you love theatre there is NOTHING else you should be doing on Saturday than watching the last performance of SKIN TIGHT directed by Mbongeni N. Mtshali. Brave, moving, intelligent; poignant. This is probably the best piece of theatre that I have seen this year. Beautiful directing by Mbongeni Mtshali. The rhythm, the imagery, the tension. It’s a story about a couple whose love is visceral, and temperamental, and tactile, and precarious. I was always waiting for blood to spill, not gush but to trickle slowly down the skin. The intimacy between the two actos Jock Kleynhans and Lisa Tredoux was extraordinary. “
